Curse of the Traveling Kris
Folks, we are 3 for 3. As in: 3 out of 3 times Kris goes out of town, disaster strikes. I told Kris last night it's a message from the universe, telling him he needs to stay in town. Kris told me I should get over it and stop making him feel guilty.
Example 1: This summer. Kris went out of town when I had a looming grant deadline. No problem! We have day care! Except...day care called and said Saya had a fever and couldn't be in day care. Leaving me with a very sick, very clingy little bug. And a cold of my own. And sleep deprivation. And, did I mention? A looming grant deadline.
Example 2: Detailed here. Flat tire, full glass of milk thrown onto my foot, book thrown in my eyeball, ripping my contact lens. Nuff said.
Example 3: Last night. Kris was getting ready to leave for St. Louis in the middle of the night. I was putting Saya to bed, when she headbutted my nose. Ohhhhlorrddyyy @#*@*#&. I have never been hit that hard in the face. My poor nose drained and drained for the next few hours while making a bizarre clicking noise every once in awhile.
Next: Saya wakes up at 1 a.m. screaming. I go check on her. What's that smell? I pick her up. Why is she all sticky? Oh. She threw up all over herself, in her crib, and now it's all over me. Time to strip the bed, do laundry, wash off, and give Saya a bath. No more crib bedding left...so time to bring Saya into bed with us.
Twenty minutes later, I hear a cough and Saya throws up all over our bed, soaking through the mattress pad and all. Deja Vu. Time to strip the bed, do laundry, wash off, and give Saya a bath.
I pull Saya into the guest bed so Kris can try to get an hour of sleep before he leaves for his trip. As Saya drifts off to sleep, she turns around and kicks her leg...right into my eye and the same nose she previously destroyed. My nose starts leaking, my eye is sore, I am cursing, and Kris is off to his conference...
