Anita's Last Supper

This week, our blog will begin a new feature, inspired by the book "My Last Supper: 50 Great Chefs and Their Final Meals" which Maryn gave Kris for his graduation.

Our friends must answer the following questions:
1. What would you eat as your last supper, if you could have anything you wanted?
2. Where would you eat it (what would the setting be)?
3. Who would you eat it with (you can pick anyone, dead or alive)?

What would your final meal be? Would it be nostalgic or indulgent? Would you prefer to savor all that you could or eat simply?

First up is our friend Anita, who is currently living a nomadic existence in Africa. Here is one of my favorite pictures of Anita (on the left) with her sister-in-law Rupa at our wedding:

Anita is one of our closest friends. Anita and Kris met in undergrad at UC Berkeley and were fast friends. Now she is considered family. Anita is one of the corniest people we know. If you know a terrible joke, Anita will laugh for hours.

Anita now works for the Clinton Foundation and travels constantly throughout Africa. She is doing amazing things, doing supply chain management for the treatment of HIV/AIDS.

Here are Anita's responses to our Last Supper questions:

1. Feast of my mother's finest: chole, batura, matter paneer, lamb curry, raita (from homemade yoghurt), basmati rice pulao, mung daal and cabbage kofta and pitla (gram flour soup w/ onion) - Rasgula (homemade ricotta, steamed and soaked in syrup) for dessert!

2. At a beautiful winery in southbay/penninsula overlooking the ocean

3. Roshan, when he's old enough to talk, but not old enough to talk back

Can you tell I desperately miss home? I feel like I will never take quality time for granted again...

We miss you too Anita!
